Deaf Artist Collaboration

Celebrating Deaf Artists & ASL Representation

One of the most important parts of this collection has been ensuring that ASL is represented authentically, respectfully, and meaningfully. ASL is a beautiful, visual language that belongs to the Deaf community, and from the beginning, we knew we couldn’t and wouldn’t create ASL-based artwork ourselves.

Instead, we wanted to collaborate with a Deaf artist—someone who lives and breathes the language, culture, and identity that ASL represents.

We’re incredibly honored to have worked with Ka Yun Lau, a Deaf Asian-American artist, to bring the ASL details in our collection to life. Ka Yun’s art is deeply personal, influenced by her multicultural identity and the diverse stories within the Deaf community. Through her brand, blunarwhale, she creates meaningful designs while giving back in impactful ways. Her kindness, talent, and passion for using art to connect and uplift others made this collaboration so special.

About the Artist

Ka Yun Lau is a Deaf Asian-American artist based in Southern California. Her experience navigating life with a multicultural identity and stories shared by people around her have inspired her works. She works primarily with watercolor, gouache, and pixels.

blunarwhale was founded with two purposes: as a creative outlet and to give back to the community. She believes everyone can contribute to the world for the better, and her way is through art—whether donating a portion of sales to an organization’s cause or donating her artwork to raise funds.
